Overcoming The Impossible
Overcoming The Impossible
As I’ve been driving over 200 grueling miles everyday for the last and very long two weeks, I’ve been repeating one of my favorite mantras I’d like to share with you:
Everyday is a new day and what doesn't kill me makes me stronger,
Everyday is a new day and what doesn't kill me makes me stronger,
Everyday is a new day and what doesn't kill me makes me stronger,
Everyday is a new day and what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
Have you ever been faced with an impossible situation you thought you would never find yourself in? A place in your life perhaps you thought wouldn't happen for a long time that suddenly did? Something you thought you would have more time to prepare yourself for? We'll, this has been and continues to be my current situation in life. Without going into detail, two weeks ago we had a family emergency that is proving to challenge me in more ways that I could ever imagine.
In the beginning, anger, frustration, bitterness, and negativity permeated my thoughts as I screamed in my head "why (insert colorful word here) me?????" Then, I asked myself "Christopher, what advice would you give to one of your coaching clients if they were going through this instead of you?
Now, I'm not going lie, it is still an extremely difficult situation to endure (BTW I hear Jack Daniels stock is going through the roof these days!). However, when I reminded myself that I had the choice to be miserable (the victim) or to accept it for what it is and to do the best I can - I began to feel some positive relief. Lord knows I've been through a lot of trying times and I reasoned that this was another opportunity to become a stronger person.
The point of sharing my story with you is this: Deep down inside we all have the will and ability to survive anything that is thrown at us. If you are currently going through tough times, ask yourself "what is my attitude about it?" "Am I blaming other people or am I accepting responsibility for my decisions?" "Am I taking steps to do something different in order to get a different outcome?" "Am I thankful for what I do have?" As I’ve been watching my odometer click as fast as our deficit is rising, I’ve been REALLY appreciative I have a nice car to make the journey each day
In looking for the positives throughout all of this, I have determined that if I can handle getting up at 4:45am, driving an hour to work, working 10hours, driving another 1hr and 40mins to take care of a sick family member and her animals for 1 ½ hrs, THEN, driving another hour to get home…then I know I’ll be able to handle having a baby someday! (those who know me will get a kick out of that). What can you handle that you didn’t think you could?
My friends, life is very short and precious – you already know this to be true. Take advantage of every moment of everyday to go after that which gives you the greatest happiness in life. Don’t wait until tomorrow, or until it’s too late.
All my best until next time,
Christopher
